In order to rent a RV in the United-States, there are many things to consider. These few details can be very important if you’re going on a trip there.
Here is a list of things to know before renting a RV in the United-States:
The driver’s licence 📒
Firstly, you must have had your driver’s licence for more than 12 months and this licence should be in the Latin alphabet. There is not need for a special driver’s licence for vehicles under 26,000 pounds (11.79 t). If ever the vehicle you are renting is over 26,000 pounds then you will need either a commercial driver’s licence or a non-commercial driver’s licence. Here is the list of states for each type of licence:
- Commercial driver’s licence: Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaï, Kansas, New Mexico, Washington DC and Wisconsin.
- Non commercial driver’s licence: California, Maryland, Michigan, North Columbia, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Wyoming.
Restrictions 🚐
- The age restriction is an important thing to take into account when you want to rent a RV in the United-States. The majority of the RV dealers require the driver/renter to be at least 25. However, you can find RV companies which allow rental for people over 21 either with or without extra expenses. So make sure to call the companies before renting if you are between 21 and 25 years old.
- For people who don’t live in the USA and who are coming on an international flight, it will not be possible to collect the vehicle on the same day. It is a requirement to have slept one night on the American territory before collecting the vehicle.
Price 💰
Because price may vary with the size of the vehicle, the numbers of people, the rental locations and the rental duration, you can find many offers on the website Motorhome USA which compares many RV dealers and vehicles.
